Panthers promote Shula to offensive coordinator

The Panthers stayed in-house to replace Rob Chudzinski, promoting Mike Shula to offensive coordinator, according to PFW correspondent Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer.

Carolina interviewed former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur and Bengals assistant Hue Jackson for the job, in addition to Shula, who had been the team’s quarterbacks coach the past two seasons.

Shula came to Carolina in 2011 after four seasons as the Jaguars’ quarterbacks coach. He was last an offensive coordinator from 1996-99 with the Buccaneers.

The Panthers also promoted Ricky Proehl to wide receivers coach and Richard Rodgers to special-teams coordinator.
