Ovince Saint Preux Puts Yushin Okami to Sleep in UFC Japan Main Event

Ovince Saint Preux may have come up short against Jon Jones at UFC 197 on Saturday, but he gave a strong performance against the man many consider the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He went five full rounds, losing a unanimous decision.

His performance was all the more impressive when you factor in that he fought at least part of the fight with a broken arm.

UFC president Dana White confirmed Saint Preux's broken arm on the UFC 197 post-fight show on Fox Sports 1.

“OSP broke his arm. I think he had a broken arm in the fourth and fifth rounds,” said White.

It's sometimes difficult to know exactly when something like that occurs in a fight. Often, a fighter can pinpoint the moment a significant injury happens. Sometimes, however, there is one technique that starts it off, but an accumulation of damage causes the diagnosed injury.

As further information develops, we may learn that Saint Preux was actually injured even before what White reported, as the fighter himself said his arm started hurting even earlier in the fight.

“(Jones) kept a fast pace and really picked it up in the fourth round, and in the second round he hit my arm with a high kick that has my arm hurting right now,” Saint Preux said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan in the Octagon.

Whether the break occurred in the second round or sometime thereafter does nothing to reduce the toughness that Saint Preux showed in going five rounds with Jones.
