Over half the Manchester United squad ‘candidates for sale’
Manchester United have internally agreed that over half the current squad are ‘serious candidates for sale’ as the club prepare to rebuild under Ruben Amorim.
United invested around £200m on new signings during the summer but have endured their worst-ever start to a Premier League season. A decision was made to sack Erik ten Hag in October, with Amorim brought in from Sporting Lisbon as his successor.
A restructure has also taken place in the board with sporting director Dan Ashworth leaving just five months after his arrival at Old Trafford. It indicates unrest under the new Ineos-led ownership and plans are now being formulated to again overhaul a squad that has had £547.96m net of investment over the last five seasons.
It was this week revealed that Marcus Rashford is a player that significant offers would be considered for and Sky Sports are reporting that only a handful of players are safe from sale.
More than half the current squad are deemed as ‘serious candidates for sale in the winter or summer’ as the club look to raise funds for Amorim to invest.
Among those deemed unsellable are Amad Diallo, who has shone under the new head coach, and Kobbie Mainoo. Summer signings Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro are also considered untouchable as things stand, alongside Andre Onana and ‘two to three other key players’.
Antony could be among the high-profile casualties of the new regime. The winger has disappointed since his £87m arrival from Ajax with a reunion with Ten Hag having failed to bring the best from the Brazilian.
Joshua Zirkzee has also struggled since his summer arrival from Bologna, while Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and the injury-plagued full-back duop Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw could all be moved on.
