Magic reportedly agree to multiple front office extensions amid rebuild

The Orlando Magic have agreed to contract extensions for both president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman and general manager John Hammond, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The two are now set to remain with the organization through the 2025-26 season.

Specifics around their deals are not yet known, though a formal announcement is expected this week. They have been in discussions about new deals since the end of last season.

Though the Magic are just 7-34 so far this season under first year coach Jamahl Mosley, the organization has improved significantly under Weltman and Hammond. The Magic reached the postseason in consecutive seasons in 2019 and 2020, which marked their first playoff appearance since 2012 under then-coach Stan Van Gundy.

The team also has six first round draft picks available in the next four years to go with their already young group of players, including Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner and Wendell Carter Jr. Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac are expected to return this season from their respective injuries, too.

While the team still has a long way to go, CEO Alex Martins is clearly getting behind Weltman and Hammond to get them there in the near future.
