It has been a rough week for the Oregon coaching staff.

Just days after Ducks strength coach Irele Oderinde was suspended for a month without pay following the hospitalization of three players following conditioning workouts, another member of Willie Taggart’s staff — co-offensive coordinator David Reaves — was arrested Sunday morning for DUI.

As a result, Reaves has been placed on administrative leave and “the process to terminate his employment with cause has commenced,” Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said in a statement.

“University of Oregon assistant football coach David Reaves was arrested last night and charged with Driving Under the Influence by members of the Eugene Police Department,” Mullens’ statement reads. “Reaves has been placed on administrative leave and the process to terminate his employment with cause has commenced. The University has high standards for the conduct of employees and is addressing this matter with the utmost of seriousness.”

According to The Oregonian, Reaves was arrested just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning. He is facing charges of DUII, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

The 38-year-old Reaves was stopped by Eugene police at 2:12 a.m. Sunday with an adult passenger in downtown Eugene, according to Eugene police. The responding officer suspected Reaves was impaired and after an investigation Reaves was charged and booked at Lane County Jail at 5:18 a.m. He left after posting bail at 9:52 a.m.

Reaves’ hire was officially announced on Tuesday and he was slated to serve as the team’s co-offensive coordinator, passing game coordinator and tight ends coach. Reaves followed Taggart to Oregon from South Florida, where Taggart was the head coach for the past four seasons. At USF, Reaves began as wide receivers coach in 2013 and worked his way up to the role of associate head coach in 2016. In between, he was USF’s quarterbacks coach in 2014 and served as co-offensive coordinator in 2015.

Reaves previously had stints as an assistant at South Carolina, Tennessee and New Mexico.
