Opening 25-year-old baseball cards with Cliff Floyd

Cliff Floyd might be the best-dressed man we’ve seen in my 25-Year-Old Baseball Cards video series, but he also might have gotten the worst pack of cards we’ve seen.

This is no knock on Floyd — who played 17 years in the big leagues before joining MLB Network as an analyst — that’s just how it is with baseball cards sometimes. One week, you get Ken Griffey Jr. and Frank Thomas, the next week, your best card is Mark Langston.

If you’re new to this series: We open baseball cards that have been preserved in my garage since 1992. My grandma bought them when we used to collect cards together. Since they’re junk wax these days, I’ve decided to open the cards with interesting baseball people in hopes of finding fun stories about players from 25 years ago.

You know what we got in this week’s episode instead of stars? Interesting haircuts. And Floyd was on top of it — whether it was Manny Lee’s Jheri curl or whatever Benito Santiago was working with back in ’92. When it came time to make a trade, however, this episode took a different spin. So keep an eye out for that.
