Minor hockey coach facing numerous sexual assault charges involving kids

York Regional Police have handed out additional sexual assault charges to a 40-year-old minor hockey coach after a second victim came forward.

In February, Kelvin Cheuk-Ho Lee of Whitchurch-Stouffville, a small town in southern Ontario, was arrested and charged with four counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under 16 years of age, after a five-day investigation from police followed the initial retrieval of information regarding a sexual assault victim.

The alleged assaults took place while the victim was as young as eight years old, and was participating in private hockey lessons from 2016 to 2022. Police say that Lee has been a hockey coach throughout Ontario for many years.

After initial reports of the arrest, police say that an additional victim of Lee has come forward. At 10 years of age, the second victim was allegedly assaulted while they attended Haliburton Hockey Haven, a hockey camp where Lee worked as the camp director since 2016. The 40-year-old now faces his fifth charge of sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under 16.

Police also say that Lee coached sports for the York Region District School Board, and also served as a tennis instructor at the Markham Tennis Club.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the investigation to contact them at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7071, or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS.

The police are also reminding the public that sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature and are encouraging anyone that may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident.
