One-Off Bugatti Chiron Profilée Sells for $10.7MBugatti

Bugatti's one-off Chiron Profilée sold for an incredible 9,792,500 Euros (roughly $10.7 million) at RM Sotheby's event in Paris on Wednesday, smashing all estimates and becoming the most expensive new car ever sold at auction.

The Chiron Profilée, a one-off production model originally developed to sit as a trim between the Chiron Sport and the Chiron Pur Sport, represented the last opportunity to purchase a W-16-powered Bugatti from the company new, as all examples of the normal Chiron, track-only Bolide hypercar, and open-top Mistral have already been spoken for.

Original estimates put the Profilée's sale price at somewhere near 4.2 million Euros, though the price spiked after an "extended bidding contest" in the auction room, according to Pistonheads.

The Chiron Profilée uses the 1500-hp version of the quad-turbo W-16 engine found in the Pur Sport, but incorporates its own unique body and trim designs, as well as its own chassis and suspension tuning. Thanks to shortened gear ratios, also from the Pur Sport, the Profilée can sprint to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, onto a top speed of 236 mph.

“With just one Chiron Profilée ever set to exist, it was important for us to offer the opportunity to acquire this piece of history to as many people as possible and we were excited with the enthusiasm of the global automotive community for this very special car," Bugatti managing director Hendrik Malinowski said in a statement. "Bidders clearly recognized the importance and value of the Chiron Profilée, with an intense rivalry and a price that places this car firmly into the history books.”
