A big-time inside job took place within one of Canada's largest minor hockey organizations.
Jennifer Guertin from Georgina, Ont., has been sentenced to 48 months in jail after pleading guilty to defrauding the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) of approximately $2.4 million.
Guertin, 47, was charged in June 2019 after an investigation led by York Regional Police followed a report for missing funds that was filed by the league in November 2018. At the time of being charged, Guertin was the OMHA’s director of finance.
At her Sept. 29 court appearance, Guertin pleaded guilty to theft over $5,000, breach of trust, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and unauthorized use of a computer with intent to commit an offense.
Along with the 48-month sentence, she has been ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution to the youth league.
