Olivia Munn dropped $7,990 on her Screen Actors Guild Awards dress — because “why not?”

The actress presented the best supporting actor in a television series category award to Sterling K. Brown (duh) in a stunning sequined Oscar de la Renta gown.

If you ever watched an episode of The Rachel Zoe Project, you know how this process usually works: designers attend runway show after runway show and then the dresses they want their clients to wear on red carpets are delivered to their doors for the celeb to yay or nay. And while it’s possible Munn’s stylist Jessica Paster went through this procedure for awards season, the winning look for the SAG Awards was the result of an online purchase. Stars — they’re just like us!

The freckle-faced beauty shared a photo of her getting ready on Instagram, with her gorgeous floor-length black and silver gown hanging in the background. “Getting ready for the @sagawards! LOVE my glam team @patrickta @chadwoodhair and my @oscardelarenta dress from @farfetch ,” she captioned the image.

What made Paster and Munn go such an untraditional route when prepping for this award show? “As a stylist, you find every single avenue to go look for dresses such as current collections, past collections, and vintage pieces,” Paster told InStyle. That’s how they found this tight strapless number with a silver sequined bodice. “When we were searching for it [online], it popped up on Farfetch.com, and we just thought to ourselves, why not [order it]?”

Silver sequined leaves extend from the bodice down the front of the skirt, and that’s what sold Paster on the gown. “What caught my eye was the gorgeous beaded and sequin leaf motif.”

Was she nervous to order something online for such an important occasion? No, because she trusts the e-tailer. “The buyers of the boutiques Farfetch works with have gorgeous eyes for evening wear and have curated a gorgeous selection,” she said.

Paster loves the way the internet has changed styling, because now the looks aren’t so limited. “What is great is that every time I dress somebody for the red carpet, I always receive emails and direct messages on my social media from people asking, ‘where can I get this dress?’ It’s great to be able to say you can go to a store in town or even easier, websites — like Farfetch — and buy it now.”

Clearly, Munn loved the idea just as much, as she proudly flaunted her online shopping skills on social media.

Munn isn’t the only celeb taking a detour when it comes to shopping for fancy dresses—Leslie Jones and Misty Copeland have worn off-the-rack dress to major events.

Some brides even buy wedding gowns online these days. Just check the return policy before you try this at home.
