Older Gen Z member shares why it’s embarrassing to be in this generation: ‘I just feel so uncool all the time’

Within generations, despite everyone being called the same name, there are different groups of people.

For example, people at the top of the millennial generation are nearly 40 years old and can recall a significant time in their lives before social media and everyone having a smartphone. Meanwhile, some millennials can be as young as 27 years old, and they grew up with that technology.

Haley Horton (@haley.horton), who is at the upper end of the Gen Z generation, explained just how difficult it can be not relating to the other people in your age group.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that being an elder Gen Z is a lot more embarrassing and uncool than being a millennial,” Horton said. “I’m 25, and I’m technically Gen Z, and I just feel like my life is constantly trying to relate to the trends.”

One of the specific trends Horton referenced was how Gen Z wears baggy clothes, which is reminiscent of mid-2000s fashion.

“The baggy pants and the tight little tanks… I would never wear that,” she said. “I just feel so uncool all the time.”

While Horton had trouble processing her place in the Gen Z generation, her viewers tried to give her some kind of peace of mind — even inviting her to a new subsection of people.

“I think that’s just your mid 20s in general,” replied @.ty_ler.

“Welcome to the Zillenials,” replied @dadsondabs.

In 2019, Pew Research Center defined the ranges for generations, saying that anyone born between 1981 and 1996 is a millennial, and those born after are part of a different group.

With the number of new trends Gen Z creates on a daily basis, it can be difficult to keep up — from simple TikTok posts about their love for random items to trying to revive the flip-phone era.

As many people in the comments showed, Horton’s feeling isn’t singular — and older Gen Zers are continuing to find their way in the generation.
