Oklahoma State defense combines for wacky interception and return vs. Kansas

Want to see an interception that bounced off a receiver’s helmet and an ensuing return that involved three different players? Of course you do.

Kansas quarterback Montell Cozart went deep to LaQuvionte Gonzalez. But the ball deflected off Gonzalez’ helmet and popped into the air. Oklahoma State safety Jordan Sterns made the interception. It got crazier from there.

Sterns decided that since he wasn’t going to score a touchdown, someone else should have the opportunity. So he lateraled the ball to defensive tackle Vincent Taylor.

Taylor took off for glory but he too soon realized he wasn’t going to make it to the end zone. So Taylor tossed the ball to defensive end Jarrell Owens. Was Owens going to get across the goal line?

No. He got taken down at the Kansas 17. But it’s always fun to see a defensive lineman rumble with the football, and it’s really special when two linemen get to run with the ball on the same play. Had Owens scored, we would’ve had no problem declaring it the 2016 defensive play of the year even though there’s still six more weeks left in the season.
