The Anaheim Ducks parted ways with Corey Perry earlier this month, electing to buy out the final two years of his contract.

That made the former league MVP and Stanley Cup champion an unrestricted free agent, with any team able to make their pitch to him without worrying about his former albatross contract that carried an annual salary cap hit of $8.625 million.

Despite years of degrading performance from Perry, a few teams have reportedly expressed interest in the 34-year-old forward, with the Edmonton Oilers among the suitors, according to Sportsnet’s John Shannon.

Once a consistent 30 goal threat, Perry’s production has slowed considerably with age and injury, bottoming out with 10 points in 31 games last season in under 15 minutes of ice time per game. He last topped 30 goals in a season in 2015-16.

How he fits in to the Oilers’ plans for the future is another question, one that depends heavily on the term and price he comes in at. He might provide value on an extremely cheap one-year flier, but any commitment beyond that will have fans experiencing nightmare flashbacks to the 4-year, $42 million spent on Milan Lucic in 2016.
