Yahoo Sports Oilers Defender Plucked By Embarrassed Opponent
EDMONTON -- Like sands through the hourglass.
The waiver wire has been active this season, as far as the Edmonton Oilers are concerned. It began with the team putting promising forward Raphael Lavoie on waivers to begin the year. This resulted in a week-long process of being put on waivers and constantly being claimed.
This has progressed into the Oilers claiming Kasperi Kapanen and Alec Regula off of waivers. Now, the latest chapter has been written.
Yesterday, the Oilers put Travis Dermott on waivers. This move would have added another left shot to the defense group of the Bakersfield Condors, which is filled with primarily right-handed defenders.
Dermott was brought into Oilers training camp on PTO. He performed well enough to earn a contract, but he has been the team's seventh defender for most of the season.
He has not recorded a single point in the 10 games he has played, averaging 13:05 minutes of ice time per game. Today, the Minnesota Wild claimed Dermott off of waivers.

Dermott has been in the NHL for nine seasons, spending time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and Arizona Coyotes before his time with the Oilers.
The Wild have had some poor injury luck lately. Jake Middleton was put on LTIR today after sustaining a hand injury in last night's 7-1 loss to the Oilers. Jonas Brodin is also injured, although he has resumed skating and should be back quickly.
Dermott is a great teammate and has great character. He should be a pleasant addition to the Wild.
If he goes on waivers again this year, the Oilers might bring him into the fold again.
