Edmonton Oilers place defenceman Andrej Sekera on waivers for buyout
The Edmonton Oilers are moving on from defenceman Andrej Sekera, after announcing on Sunday afternoon that the 33-year-old has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.
Sekera missed a significant amount of time due to injury over the last two seasons, playing 24 games last season, and 36 the year prior.

He was owed $9-million over two remaining years on a 6-year $33-million contract signed in 2015. The 13-year NHL veteran will cost the Oilers $2.5M against the cap the next two seasons, and $1.5M for two years following that.
