Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano was issued a traffic citation Wednesday.

Last Thursday morning, Schiano’s truck hit a bicyclist, resulting in a ticket for “failure to obey a traffic-control device.” The ticket is a minor misdemeanor, per the Columbus Dispatch.

Police said Schiano ran a red light around 6:30 a.m. and struck the bicyclist, a 26-year-old man. The man was subsequently treated at a local hospital and released.

Per the Dispatch, Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer said Schiano was “devastated” by the incident. Schiano, who is in his first season at Ohio State, has not spoken publicly since the incident.

“I don’t want to get too much into it. Greg… that broke his heart,” Meyer said. “I don’t want to say much more than our prayers are with the young person (who was hit).”

Per the Dispatch, Schiano called 911 at the scene of the incident:

At the scene of the accident, Schiano immediately called 911 seeking help. The Dispatch obtained the recording of the call in which Schiano continually tells the bicyclist “Stay down, sir” as he speaks with the operator. Schiano goes on to say “A young man was struck by a car.”

Asked by the operator if the car was still there, he said “Yes, the car and the bike are still here.” He then identified himself when asked by the operator.

Schiano faces $152 in fines and has a court date set for Oct. 5. Schiano was the head coach at Rutgers from 2001-2011 before going 11-21 in two seasons as head coach of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
