Officer involved in Odell Beckham Jr.'s butt-slap incident does not want to pursue charges

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. might not be in trouble with the law after all. The officer involved in the butt-slap after Monday’s college football national championship game signed an affidavit saying he does not want to pursue charges, according to NOLA.com.

On top of that, the New Orleans Police Department rescinded a warrant for Beckham’s arrest. That was expected after the officer declined to pursue criminal charges.

The incident occurred following LSU’s victory over Clemson. Beckham, who attended LSU before going pro, was celebrating with players in the locker room when a Superdome police officer told players they could not smoke cigars. The 27-year-old Beckham slapped that officer on the butt, leading to a tense staredown between the two. Beckham’s slap was caught on video.

The slap capped off an eventful celebration for Beckham, who was also seen handing out cash to LSU players following the game.

Beckham finds himself in an interesting spot this offseason. After a rocky first year in Cleveland, Beckham will have to hope a new coaching staff can turn things around. Beckham still has four years and over $55 million left on his current deal, so it’s beneficial for both sides to make things work.
