Nutella has changed its recipe, and chocolate-spread devotees have flocked to Twitter to vent their frustration.
Italian manufacturer Ferrero (which counts Nutella as one its confectionary brands) has confirmed that the change to the spread makes it lighter and contains more sugar.
According to the BBC, the new formula contains 8.7 percent powdered skim milk (compared with the previous quantity of 7.5 percent) and that sugar content has increased from 55.9 percent to 56.3 percent.
The decision has divided Nutella fans across the globe, and many have posted on social media threatening to boycott the brand, using the hashtag #NutellaGate.

Yet despite customer concerns, the chocolate giant has reassured the public that the product hasn’t changed much.
In a statement, Ferrero announced, “The quality … and all other aspects of Nutella remain the same.” The company has yet to say why the recipe has changed.
