Nottingham Forest used the Carabao Cup tie with Newcastle to blood a few of their summer signings.

There were debuts for Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel, teenage German right-back Eric da Silva Moreira, Aston Villa loanee Alex Moreno and Paraguay forward Ramon Sosa.

Miguel, standing at 6ft 8in, had a mixed night with his early parry giving Joe Willock an empty net to tap into.

But he made a few decent saves later on - and kept out Joelinton's spot-kick in the shootout.

Jota Silva, another summer recruit, made his first start for the club and his goal was one to remember, a fine first-time strike on a bouncing ball going in via the woodwork.

Elliot Anderson, a signing from their opponents, almost scored against his former club but his lob went just wide.

Nikola Milenkovic came on and netted his spot-kick too.
