Many high school recruits envision what the statistics they could pile up in a big college football game. Notre Dame is envisioning it too.
The Irish sent high school safety Houston Griffith a card with his possible stats from a hypothetical 48-10 win over Michigan. What better way to get a recruit visualizing playing for Notre Dame than with a blowout win over the Wolverines?
— Houston Griffith (@___HG3) June 12, 2017
Griffith is a four-star recruit from IMG Academy in Florida and the No. 4 safety in the country. He’s ranked as the No. 13 prospect in the state according to Rivals and the No. 44 overall recruit in the class of 2018.
While it’s fun for Griffith to think he’ll win the Jim Thorpe Award in 2022 for best defensive back, his statistics in that Michigan win may be even more farfetched. How many players make their team debut and get 12 tackles, two forced fumbles and a pick? And against one of the best teams in the country, not an FCS team.
Notre Dame gets points for creativity. But the realism may need a little work.
