Notre Dame dismisses four players
Four Notre Dame players, including two who missed the Citrus Bowl after a shoplifting arrest, have been dismissed.
The team has dismissed RB CJ Holmes, RB Deon McIntosh, WR Kevin Stephenson and DL Brandon Tiassum from the roster. According to Blue and Gold Illustrated, Holmes is still enrolled at the school and could make it back to the team if he meets specific criteria.
Stepherson and Holmes were arrested Dec. 15 for allegedly shoplifting from a Macy’s. Stepherson allegedly walked out of the store with a pair of Nautica sweatpants while Holmes allegedly took a Nautica coat. Stepherson had also been pulled over and cited for pot possession the day before his shoplifting arrest.
McIntosh was also suspended for the Citrus Bowl. He traveled with the team to the game but was sent home for a violation of team rules.
The dismissals of the two running backs and Stepherson comes after the Irish’s best running back and best wide receiver went pro. WR Equanimeous St. Brown, the team’s leading receiver, and RB Josh Adams, the team’s leading rusher, both declared for the NFL draft.
Stepherson had 19 catches for 359 yards and five touchdowns. McIntosh had 65 carries for 368 yards and five scores. Without Adams and McIntosh on the roster, Tony Jones Jr. is the team’s leading returning rusher in 2018. He had 44 carries for 232 yards and three scores in 2017.
