Stand down, LSU fans.

New Orleans high school coaches have said there’s not going to be a boycott of the Tigers following the departure of running backs coach Jabbar Juluke, who was reassigned within the athletic department last week. Tuesday, Texas Tech said Juluke would be the Red Raiders’ running backs coach and assistant head coach.

A report from SEC Country suggested that a cold shoulder to LSU would be among the topics discussed at a meeting involving prominent New Orleans high school coaches Thursday. The report said “it is expected” the coaches at the meeting would “move to boycott LSU moving forward.

That ain’t happening according to new LSU wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph and a couple of high school coaches in the city.

Joseph was hired along with USC’s Tommie Robinson (as Juluke’s replacement) to take the two open spots that LSU created with the announcement Juluke was reassigned and wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig was fired. Joseph told the Baton Rouge Advocate on Tuesday that coaches wouldn’t be boycotting the school.

“They assured me, ‘Mickey, it’s no boycott,'” Joseph said.

“I have good relationships with these coaches. They’re not going to shut LSU out. They’re not going to shut Mickey Joseph out. They know at the end of the day I do what’s best for the university and what’s best for those kids.”

Two coaches corroborated Joseph’s comments to WGNO, the ABC affiliate in the city.

“There is no boycott of LSU,” said St James high school coach Robert Valdez. “I did talk to coach Orgeron and expressed my concerns. We had a great conversation.”

The original report mentioned that Orgeron had been calling coaches to help work any potential issues out before they potentially mushroomed. And while a boycott certainly sounds serious, it would have some serious potential to backfire. What happens if a prospect from a boycotting high school wants to go to LSU and the coaching staff says “Nah, you can’t. We’re protesting” to him?

Orgeron was hired as the team’s permanent coach in November after serving as LSU’s interim coach following the firing of Les Miles in September.
