The preseason SEC media poll anticipates a rematch of the National Championship Game in the 2018 SEC Championship Game.

You should not be surprised.

The annual preseason poll was released Friday and Alabama and Georgia are the overwhelming favorites in their respective divisions. Georgia got 271 first-place votes while all other SEC East teams got 14. Alabama got 263 first-place votes while all other SEC West teams got 21.

Alabama was then picked by the media members who voted in the poll to beat Georgia in the SEC title game. As the SEC release accompanying the poll astutely notes, “only six times since 1992 has the predicted champion at SEC Media Days proceeded to win the SEC Championship.”

Watch out, Bama fans.

Auburn a clear No. 2 in the West

Alabama’s closest rival got the No. 2 spot in the West rankings and 19 of the remaining 21 first-place votes. The other two went to No. 3 Mississippi State. And yes, that’s LSU at No. 5. Texas A&M and new head coach Jimbo Fisher are picked ahead of the Tigers.

1. Alabama (263)
2. Auburn (19)
3. Mississippi State (2)
4. Texas A&M
5. LSU
6. Ole Miss
7. Arkansas

Four other teams got first-place votes in the East

The SEC really needs to make its preseason media poll votes public. Voting for South Carolina (eight votes) or Florida (four) to win the East isn’t outlandish, though it’s a long shot. Voting for Kentucky and Tennessee? Come on, y’all.

Both Kentucky and Tennessee got a first-place vote apiece. We’re guessing those votes came from media members who closely cover each of those schools. No one in their right mind otherwise is voting for them to win the East unless they are trying to joke around with the preseason poll process.

1. Georgia (271)
2. South Carolina (8)
3. Florida (4)
4. Missouri
5. Kentucky (1)
6. Tennessee (1)
7. Vanderbilt
