On the eve of basketball season tickets going on sale for Wisconsin students, senior forward Nigel Hayes issued a friendly challenge to his peers.

Not only did Wisconsin students eclipse Hayes’ goal, they annihilated it. The 2,100 student season tickets went on sale at 7 a.m. on Thursday morning and sold out in just three minutes, the university announced on Thursday.

It’s no surprise Wisconsin students set a record under the circumstances. First of all, college students will do anything when free food is at stake. Secondly, the Badgers have legitimate hope of reaching a third Final Four in four years since they have every key player back from a team that reached the Sweet 16 last year.

Underestimating his fellow Wisconsin students may cost Hayes a sizeable chunk of cash. Even if he can find donuts in bulk in Madison at 50 cents apiece, that would still mean 2,100 of them would cost $1,050.

So will Hayes follow through? Judging from his Twitter account, the answer is yes.
