Nicolas Cage in 'Left Behind' - STACK

Nicolas Cage stars as pilot Rayford Steele in the latest big screen adaptation of the best-selling book series, Left Behind, by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye.

Just after the Rapture, when millions of people around the world suddenly disappear, Rayford is flying a commercial airliner 30,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. In this apocalyptic thriller, Rayford is faced with the challenge of safely landing his damaged plane full of terrified passengers and trying to get back to his family. Amid the chaos on the ground, Rayford's daughter Chloe frantically searches for her mother and brother, who have vanished along with much of the world's population.

Australian actress Cassi Thomson, best known for her role on the TV series Big Love, stars as Chloe. The cast also features Chad Michael Murray, Jordin Sparks, Nicky Whelan and Lea Thompson.

Based on the Bible, the Left Behind book series is one of the best-selling fiction series of all time. The screenplay was written by Paul Lalonde and John Patus, both of whom worked on the screenplay for 2005's Left Behind: World at War.

Directing the film is Vic Armstrong (Army of One), who is also a well-known stuntman.

Left Behind hits theaters nationwide Oct. 3, 2014. Watch the trailer below.
