Nico Rosberg didn’t want his teammate to pass him on the last lap. Lewis Hamilton ended up completing the pass and Rosberg missed out on a top-three finish because of his actions.

Rosberg, who was leading the race ahead of Hamilton, had the low line entering turn 2 at Austria. Hamilton went to Rosberg’s outside to make a pass around the tight corner and swung wide. So did Rosberg, who ran into Hamilton as the two were in the corner.

The contact ran Hamilton off the track. But it also significantly damaged Rosberg’s car. Hamilton swung back on track to take the lead and the win while Rosberg limped home with a fourth-place finish thanks to the damage.

Rosberg, who said his brakes started to overheat on the final lap, defended his actions after the race, saying that he had the inside line and Hamilton turned into him. Do you agree with him after watching the GIF below?

“I was still in a good position to defend. And I had the inside line and it’s my corner on the inside,” Rosberg said. “I was very surprised that Lewis decided to turn in.”

The two Mercedes teammates are 1-2 in the points standings with Rosberg ahead of Hamilton. And they’ve tangled already while racing for the lead before. On the first lap at Barcelona earlier this year, the two collided and took each other out as Hamilton went for a pass on Rosberg.

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff said the contact between the teammates has to stop.

“We have to stop them somehow, because it can’t continue like this,” Wolff said. He also said team orders between the two drivers could be on the table.

“If every racing between the two ends with a collision, it’s where we have to act.”

Rosberg now leads Hamilton in the points standings by 11 points.
