NHL Three Stars: Sidney Crosby cracks 1,000 points

No. 1 Star: Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins

Crosby scored his 1,000th career point with a first-period assist on Chris Kunitz’s goal, and then potted the game-winner at 4:38 of overtime for goal No. 31 on the season. The Penguins outlasted the Winnipeg Jets, 4-3.

No. 2 Star: Robin Lehner, Buffalo Sabres

The goalie made 23 saves as the Sabres handed the Colorado Avalanche their fifth straight loss, 2-0. Evander Kane scored his 19th.

No. 3 Star: Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers

McDavid had a goal and two assists in the Oilers’ 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. He scored goal No. 19 and assisted on tallies by Jordan Eberle and Oscar Klefbom.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Ladd scored twice and John Tavares had two assists in the New York Islanders’ big 4-2 win over the New York Rangers.
