NHL Three Stars: Jones bests Price; Flames beat Wild in shootout

No. 1 Star: Martin Jones, San Jose Sharks

The San Jose netminder stopped 31 of 32 shots on goal in a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Jones has won five of his last six starts and currently holds a 1.99 goal-against average and .924 save percentage. The Sharks have won 10 straight home games against the Canadiens dating back to March 12, 2001.

No. 2 Star: Chad Johnson, Calgary Flames

Johnson stopped 21 of 23 Minnesota Wild shots on goal in a 3-2 shootout win. He has won six of his last eight starts, going 6-2-0 with a 1.50 goal-against average and .951 save percentage with three shutouts in that span. In 14 games played Johnson has a 9-4-1 record with a 2.05 goal-against average and .930 save percentage. The Flames are 7-3-1 in their last 11 games played and Johnson has been in goal for all seven wins.

No. 3 Star: Joe Thornton, San Jose Sharks

With two assists in the win over the Canadiens, the 37-year-old Thornton reached 1,356 career points and moved ahead of Brendan Shanahan (1,354 points) for 25th on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. John Bucyk is next at No. 24 with 1,369 points. Thornton’s points ended a five-game scoreless stretch.

Honorable Mention: Sean Monahan scored the shootout winner for the Flames and also added an assist. … Flames forwards Kris Versteeg and Mikael Backlund both scored goals. … The Wild received goals forwards from Chris Stewart and Mikko Koivu in the loss. … Minnesota goaltender Devan Dubnyk stopped 29 of 31 shots on goal. … Sharks captain Joe Pavelski scored his eighth goal of the season and added an assist. … San Jose defenseman Brent Burns scored his 10th goal of the season. … Canadiens goaltender Carey Price stopped 28 of 30 shots on goal in the loss. … Artturi Lehkonen scored Montreal’s only goal.
