NHL Three Stars: Schwartz's heroics; Flyers win sixth straight

No. 1 Star: Jaden Schwartz, St. Louis Blues

Schwartz scored twice, including the overtime winner as the Blues clawed back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2. Schwartz actually had a hand in all three St. Louis goals as he picked up the primary helper on Paul Stastny’s seventh of the year in the third period.

No. 2 Star: Steve Mason, Philadelphia Flyers

Jakub Voracek scored with 8.6 seconds left in overtime to lift the Philadelphia Flyers by the Florida Panthers 3-2. Mason made 42 stops to help the Flyers to their sixth straight victory, their longest such streak in five years. Wayne Simmonds helped out with a pair of goals for his 28th career multi-goal game.

No. 3 Stars: Rasmus Ristolainen, Buffalo Sabres / Scott Darling, Chicago Blackhawks

Ristolainen’s goal 57 seconds into overtime helped secure the extra for point for Buffalo in a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Evander Kane’s second of the night with 29 seconds left in the third period helped forced OT, with Ristolainen picking up his second assist in the process.

Darling, meanwhile, had a light night stopping 22 Arizona Coyotes shots en route to a 4-0 shutout. Marian Hossa led the way offensively for the Blackhawks with two goals. Darling’s shutout was the third of his career.

Honorable Mention: Connor McDavid recorded a pair of assists and leads the NHL with 36 points … Kyle Palmieri and Ben Lovejoy scored 4:01 apart in the second period to help the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Taylor Hall added a goal and an assist … Scott Mayfield scored hours after being emergency recalled and Jaroslav Halak stopped 36 shots as the New York Islanders doubled up the New York Rangers 4-2. The win was their fourth in their last five games and Halak’s ninth in his last 10 starts against Henrik Lundqvist. Andrew Ladd scored his first goal since Nov. 10 … Chad Johnson made 29 saves and Sean Monahan’s power play goal helped give the Calgary Flames a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars. The win was Calgary’s fourth in a row. Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau each finished with a goal and an assist … Pretty good skate save here by Kari Lehtonen on Johnny Hockey:

Henrik Zetterberg’s goal in the fifth round of the shootout helped power the Detroit Red Wings by the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 … Patrik Laine is oh so good:

Roman Josi’s power play goal early in the third period ended up being the difference as the Nashville Predators beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3. P.K. Subban notched his seventh goal, passing his total of all of last season, while Viktor Arvidsson tied a career high with his eighth.

Dishonorable Mention: David Desharnais left the game with a lower-body injury, leaving Montreal with only two centers … Philip Larsen left the game in the second period on a stretcher after a hit by Hall. Vancouver announced he was alert, coherent and had full movement while being transported to a local hospital … The Rangers’ power play went 0-for-6 … Florida ends their six-game road trip 1-5-0 … Colorado has dropped six in a row.
