NHL Three Stars: Forsberg gets tricky in second straight game

No. 1 Star: Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators

Two games, two hat tricks for the Predators’ scoring ace. After posting three goals in a 6-5 loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, Forsberg had another three goals in a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche. He now has 22 goals on the season, and will probably be the player of the week, we guess. The last player to score a hat trick in consecutive games was Alex Burrows (Jan. 5-7, 2010).

No. 2 Star: Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks

Patrick Kane put the game away with goals in the second and third period, completing a hat trick for the Blackhawks in their 6-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes. He now has 23 goals on the season. It was his first hat trick of the season and third of his career.

No. 3 Star: Thomas Greiss, New York Islanders

Greiss made 24 saves as the Islanders shut out the Montreal Canadiens in Claude Julien’s 1,000th game. John Tavares had a goal and an assist.

Honorable Mention: The New York Rangers got shootout goals from Mats Zuccarello and Mika Zibanejad in their 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves and two more in the shootout. … Dougie Hamilton had a goal and two assists, including one on Sean Monahan’s 100th NHL goal, as the Calgary Flames topped the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2. Nikita Kucherov scored his 23rd in the loss. … David Pastrnak scored his 26th in the second period for the game-winner, as the Boston Bruins topped the Los Angeles Kings, 4-1. Dominic Moore and David Krejci scored empty netters. Anton Khudobin made 27 saves.

Did You Know? Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin was scratched because of an illness and replaced by Cory Conacher in the lineup.

Dishonorable Mention: The Leafs are now 1-7 in the shootout. … Anze Kopitar and Kevin Gravel were a minus-3. … This was not Pekka Rinne’s finest moment, but sometimes luck is just with the other team.
