No. 1 Star: Johnny Boychuk, New York Islanders

Tied 2-2 in the third period, the Islanders defenseman fired home a shot directly off an offensive zone face-off to help give New York a 3-2 win. The goal was Boychuk’s first shorthanded tally of his career. He had earlier assisted on Ryan Strome’s second of the season and finished with two points.

No. 2 Star: Sergei Bobrovsky, Columbus Blue Jackets

Bobrovsky stopped 32 of 34 shots faced as the Blue Jackets edged the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 for their first win of the season. Nick Foligno and rookie blue liner Zach Werenski recorded a goal and an assist. Werenski became the first Blue Jackets player to record at least a point in each of his first three NHL games.

No. 3 Star: Petr Mrazek, Detroit Red Wings

Gustav Nyquist had two points and 10 other Red Wings were on the scoresheet as Detroit downed Nashville 5-3. Mrazek, meanwhile, made 30 saves, including this stop on James Neal:

Honorable Mention: Tyler Motte scored his first NHL goal in the Blackhawks loss … Nashvilled scored their NHL-best eighth power play goal of the season … Brad Richardson and Radim Vrbata scored 13 seconds apart in the first period to help the Coyotes come back from a 2-0 deficit … Ryan Strome and Dylan Strome faced off against one another for the first time in their young careers:

Columbus capitalized on both of their power play opportunities … The Red Wings and Predators took advantage of their extra man chances as both went a combined 5-for-9 on the power play … All three home teams won on Friday. According to Elias, they are now 47-15-2 on the season.

Did You Know?

Dishonorable Mention: The Blackhawks’ penalty kill has already allowed 11 goals against … Chicago’s power play failed on four chances … Trevor van Riemsdyk left the game following this crash into the net. Joel Quenneville said the defenseman may be out for “a bit.” Via Steph:
