Sidney Crosby shows off elite acting chops with all-time dive versus Bruins
“NHL superstar brought to his knees with vicious, unsuspecting high stick.”
If I was in the business of writing sensationalized and misleading headlines, that’s the one I’d use for this particular penalty Sidney Crosby drew on Saturday against the Boston Bruins.
After scoring a short-handed marker with just over a minute remaining to bring his Pittsburgh Penguins within a goal, Crosby was grazed (and i mean GRAZED) by the butt-end of Patrice Bergeron’s stick, and what followed was one of the greatest acting performances of our generation as the Penguins captain snapped his head back and hit the deck in one of the more animated and perfectly executed dives I think I've ever seen.

Upon impact, Crosby collapsed. His entire body folded from the devastating impact as he hit the ice in despair. Bergeron was awarded a four-minute double-minor for his act of barbarism that cost Crosby exactly zero (0) shifts.
It was a valiant effort by Sid to earn his team a power play in the waning minutes of the game, but it was all for naught as Pittsburgh allowed an empty-net goal to Brad Marchand shortly after and the Bruins hung on to win 7-5.
Crosby did get cut by the edge of Bergeron's knob on the play which resulted in the double-minor even after review, but there's no way a ref's hand snaps up to call a penalty in the first place without Crosby selling this thing for all it's worth.
I’m sure Crosby and Bergeron will share a good laugh about the incident when they see each other again. The two have a lengthy history of playing alongside each other at International ice hockey competitions, dating back to a 2005 World Juniors gold medal. Since then, the pair have won two Olympic gold medals and a World Cup of Hockey championship while representing Canada.
