July 6 (The Sports Xchange) - The Washington Capitals re-signed center Evgeny Kuznetsov to a two-year, $6 million contract, the team announced Monday. Kuznetsov, 23, had 11 goals and 26 assists in 80 games with Washington last season. He ranked eighth among NHL rookies in assists and ninth in points. - - The Boston Bruins signed forward Jimmy Hayes to a three-year contract through the 2017-18 season. The deal is worth $6.9 million ($2.3 million salary cap hit), the team announced. - - The Toronto Maple Leafs signed free agent forward Shawn Matthias to a one-year contract. Matthias, 27, skated with the Vancouver Canucks last season, collecting 27 points (18 goals, nine assists) and 16 penalty minutes. - - The Los Angeles Kings signed defenseman Jamie McBain to a one-year contract. McBain, 27, tallied nine points (three goals) and four penalty minutes in 26 games with the Kings last season. - - The Chicago Blackhawks acquired forward Liam Coughlin from the Edmonton Oilers in return for goaltender Anders Nilsson. Coughlin, 20, tallied 60 points (20 goals) for the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League last season and has 105 points (38 goals) in 107 games for Vernon since 2013. - - The Blackhawks will return to the campus of the University of Notre Dame to open their 2015-16 training camp, the team announced. The team also signed forward Dmitrij Jaskin to a one-year contract. - - The Buffalo Sabres hired Dan Lambert as an assistant coach on Dan Bylsma's staff.
