Nov 25 (The Sports Xchange) - The Montreal Canadiens signed general manager Marc Bergevin to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday. The deal will keep him with the Canadiens through the 2021-22 season. Bergevin, 50, became the 17th general manager in Canadiens history on May 2, 2012. Since his appointment, he turned around a team that had finished with just 78 points in the standings, showing the third worst record in the NHL. Under Bergevin, the Canadiens have played 234 games with a 141-68-25 record and a .656 winning percentage in the regular season. Since 2012, the Canadiens are tied for third in the NHL in wins and have made the playoffs every year. - - - The Minnesota Wild recalled forward Christoph Bertschy from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League under emergency conditions. Bertschy, 21, made his NHL debut on Nov. 7 and has played in two games with Minnesota this season. The native of Fribourg, Switzerland, has nine points (two goals, seven assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 19 games with Iowa this season. - - - The Calgary Flames assigned defenseman Ladislav Smid to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League on a conditioning assignment.
