Nov 25 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Wednesday's National Hockey League games. - - Canadiens 5, Rangers 1 Devante Smith-Pelly scored twice as the Montreal Canadiens earned a potentially costly 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Goaltender Carey Price stopped 22 of 23 shots to grab the win, but left the game after two periods for undisclosed reasons. He missed eight games earlier this season with a lower-body injury and was playing in only his third game since returning. - - Bruins 3, Red Wings 2 (overtime) Frank Vatrano's second goal of the game, with 1:28 left in overtime, gave the Boston Bruins a 3-2 come-from-behind win against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Defenseman Colin Miller also scored and had an assist for Boston while goaltender Jonas Gustavsson made 32 saves. - - Blue Jackets 2, Devils 1 The Columbus Blue Jackets killed off five New Jersey Devils power plays on the way to a 2-1 win at the Prudential Center. Goalie Carter Hutton made 30 saves for Nashville (12-6-3). - - Penguins 4, Blues 3 (overtime) Evgeni Malkin scored on a backhander at 1:03 of overtime Wednesday to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Sidney Crosby scored two goals and Ben Lovejoy added another for the Penguins, who ended a four-game homestand 3-1. - - Capitals 5, Jets 3 Washington's Evgeny Kuznetsov had a goal and two assists, and Nicklas Backstrom and Dmitri Orlov each had a goal and an assist as the Capitals beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-3. Defenseman Orlov, who scored in his third straight game, broke a 3-3 tie with 3:38 to play in the second period as Washington (15-5-1) won their third straight. - - Canucks 3, Wild 2 Radim Vrbata's first two-goal game of the season helped the Vancouver Canucks kick off a four-game road trip with a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Vancouver trailed 1-0 late in the first period before Vrbata tied the score and then gave the Canucks the lead for good in the second period with a power-play goal. - - Hurricanes 4, Oilers 1 The Carolina Hurricanes scored four consecutive goals on the way to defeating the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 at PNC Arena. Jordan Staal, Elias Lindholm, Jeff Skinner and Andrej Nestrasil scored for the Hurricanes, who gave up the first goal. Goaltender Cam Ward made 30 saves. - - Islanders 3, Flyers 1 Islanders winger Kyle Okposo scored the tie-breaking goal early in the second period as New York snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Philadelphia at Barclays Center. Casey Cizikas scored in the final minute of the first period for the Islanders (11-8-3), who moved, at least temporarily, into the top eight in the Eastern Conference by winning for just the fifth time in 13 games (5-6-2). Frans Nielsen added an empty netter with 1:09 left in the third. - - Lightning 2, Kings 1 (shootout) Jonathan Marchessault and Valtteri Filppula scored Tampa Bay's first shootout goals of the season, giving the Lightning a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings at Amalie Arena. The Lightning (11-9-3) had gone 0-for-6 in two shootouts before Wednesday, but Marchessault and Filppula beat Kings goalie Jonathan Quick for goals after a 1-1 tie through overtime. - - Coyotes 4, Ducks 2 Coyotes center Antoine Vermette scored his first goal of the season, Anthony Duclair scored his eighth and goalie Mike Smith made 29 saves as Arizona defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 at Gila River Arena. With the win, Arizona improved to 6-1 against Pacific Division teams this season and 3-0 against the Ducks, whom the Coyotes defeated twice in Anaheim earlier this season. - - Senators 5, Avalanche 3 Shane Prince scored his first two NHL goals and also had an assist, Zack Smith had a goal and an assist and the Ottawa Senators survived a third-period rally to beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-3.
