NHL fines Del Zotto, Kopecky $2.5K US for altercation

New York Rangers defenceman Michael Del Zotto and Florida Panthers forward Tomas Kopecky were each handed a $2,500 US fine for their roles in an altercation on Friday night.

The NHL's department of player safety announced the levies on Saturday in a release.

The incident occurred at 19:52 of the third period of New York's 4-1 win. Del Zotto was assessed a minor penalty for high sticking while Kopecky, who punched an unsuspecting player according to the release, was given a match penalty.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, $2,500 is the maximum amount allowable. All money will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
