NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Forwards Pickups Dec. 14 - Kadri And Huberdeau Stay Hot For Flames; Rust And Rakell Help Penguins Fly
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.
Nazem Kadri, C, CGY vs. FLA (50% rostered)
Jonathan Huberdeau, LW, CGY vs. FLA (24% rostered)
If you dumped Kadri earlier this season, it's time to get back on board. He's scored nine points in his past 10 games while doing his usual thing of shooting a lot of pucks and winning a lot of faceoffs.
Huberdeau, too, is catching fire - finally - after going quiet following a four-point effort in his second game of the season. He's on a six-game points streak.
Pavel Buchnevich, C/LW, STL at DAL (44% rostered)
Buchnevich's assist against the Sharks stretched his points streak to seven games if you discount his two-game absence due to injury. He's maintained his role on L1 with Robert Thomas, and if Jim Montgomery sticks with his current lines, Buchnevich should gain RW eligibility soon. He's more than just a streamer if he's scoring at this rate.
Sean Monahan, C, CLB vs. ANA (42% rostered)
Kent Johnson, C/LW/RW, CLB vs. ANA (33% rostered)
Monahan's on a three-game points streak and the Ducks have been woeful losing five straight with at least three goals allowed in three of those games. Meanwhile, Johnson has scored five points in his past three games. He's averaging over a point per game this season. Don't discount the Jackets offense, which ranks eighth in GF/GP.
Bryan Rust, RW, PIT at OTT (34% rostered)
Rickard Rakell, C/LW/RW, PIT at OTT (33% rostered)
Rust and Rakell each scored four points in a 9-2 rout against the Habs. Please pick up both of them in your leagues so I no longer have to write about them anymore. Please, I'm begging you.
Oliver Bjorkstrand, RW, SEA vs. TB (19% rostered)
Bjorkstrand can be hit or miss, but when he hits, he hits big. He's scored two goals in two of his past three games, and the task might be easier this time since the Lightning are missing half their defense.
Max Pacioretty, LW, TOR at DET (5% rostered)
Playing with good players helps. Pacioretty is coming off a three-point performance and set to line up with John Tavares and William Nylander in a matchup where the Leafs should really dominate. The Wings rolled over like dead things Thursday against the Flyers, and also expected to start third-string Ville Husso.
Nikita Chibrikov, RW, WPG vs. MON (1% rostered)
Chibrikov has now scored a goal in every single NHL game he's played dating back to the previous season. He played just 11:25 against Vegas, but once again he was very productive with a goal, two shots, a hit and a block. He's quickly becoming a multi-category asset, and the Jets should overpower the Habs quite easily.
Frank Nazar, C, CHI at NJ (1% rostered)
Though listed as a center, Nazar is expected to skate on the left wing with Jason Dickinson and Teuvo Teravainen. One of the Blackhawks' most highly-regarded prospects, Nazar was AHL Rockford's scoring leader with 24 points in 21 games as a rookie, excelling under the tutelage of coach Anders Sorensen, who has since replaced Luke Richardson as the Blackhawks' bench boss.
No doubt the familiarity between Sorensen and Nazar was called up, and the Hawks are desperately in need of offense. The Devils should dominate this matchup, however, leaving few offensive opportunities for the Hawks. I think Nazar's a risky play but certainly has upside, though note he might get minimal power play usage, if at all.
Honorable mention:
Anthony Cirelli, C, TB at SEA (48% rostered)
Tyler Toffoli, LW/RW, SJ vs. UTA (46% rostered)
Gabriel Vilardi, C/RW, WPG vs. MON (38% rostered)
Ryan O'Reilly, C, NSH at COL (37% rostered)
Dylan Holloway, C/LW, STL at DAL (30% rostered)
Marco Rossi, C, MIN vs. PHI (30% rostered)
