We are eight days away from the start of the 2016-17 NHL season. That means it’s time for predictions that we’ll look back on in April and laugh at along with betting odds for the major awards to be handed out in June.

Bovada has passed along their odds for the top NHL trophies.

Here we go.

HART TROPHY
Sidney Crosby – 7/2
Patrick Kane – 7/1
Alexander Ovechkin – 17/2
Vladimir Tarasenko – 9/1
Connor McDavid – 19/2
John Tavares – 10/1
Jamie Benn – 11/1
Steven Stamkos – 11/1
Tyler Seguin – 14/1
Carey Price – 16/1
Claude Giroux – 18/1
Evgeni Malkin – 18/1
Ryan Getzlaf – 20/1
Erik Karlsson – 20/1
Anze Kopitar – 25/1
Corey Perry – 25/1
Johnny Gaudreau – 40/1
Nikita Kucherov – 40/1
Joe Pavelski – 40/1
Joe Thornton – 50/1

Your usual suspects at the top, but is there a longer shot that could win here? Giroux going full beast mode? Karlsson carrying the Ottawa Senators to the playoffs? Price doing it again?

VEZINA TROPHY
Carey Price – 7/2
Braden Holtby – 5/1
Ben Bishop – 15/2
Henrik Lundqvist – 15/2
Pekka Rinne – 8/1
Jonathan Quick – 17/2
Corey Crawford – 9/1
Tukka Rask – 19/2
Cory Schneider – 19/2
Roberto Luongo – 14/1
Martin Jones – 15/1
Jake Allen – 20/1
Brian Elliott – 30/1
John Gibson – 30/1
Petr Mrazek – 30/1

A full season of Price should mean an improved Montreal Canadiens side. He looked great at the World Cup of Hockey, which bodes well for 2016-17. Martin Brodeur was the last goaltender to win the award in back-to-back years, meaning Holtby faces a tough task.

CALDER TROPHY
Auston Matthews – 5/8
Patrik Laine – 11/4
Dylan Strome – 8/1
William Nylander – 10/1
Pierre-Luc Dubois – 12/1
Jimmy Vesey – 12/1
Jesse Puljujarvi -15/1

We’re primed for another Sid vs. Ovi battle as we watch Matthews and Laine this season. That probably means that while Matthews is favored, Laine will grab the award. Maybe a late season goal flourish helps his cause?

Also, for the first time in three seasons John Gibson is not eligible to win the award.

ART ROSS TROPHY
Sidney Crosby – 2/1
Patrick Kane – 5/1
Jamie Benn – 6/1
Connor McDavid – 6/1
John Tavares – 17/2
Alexander Ovechkin – 15/1
Tyler Seguin – 15/1
Vladimir Tarasenko – 15/1
Erik Karlsson – 20/1
Nicklas Backstron – 25/1
Evgeni Malkin – 30/1
Steven Stamkos – 30/1
Ryan Getzlaf – 30/1
Johnny Gaudreau – 33/1
Claude Giroux – 35/1
Joe Pavelski – 35/1
Joe Thornton – 50/1
Evgeny Kuznetsov – 60/1
Anze Kopitar – 75/1
Nikita Kucherov – 75/1

Kane won the award last season after finishing 17 points ahead of Benn and 21 ahead of Crosby. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain got off to a slow start and you’d probably be right to predict a small regression from Kane this season. But the partnership between Benn and Seguin might throw a monkey wrench into those plans. Same for a full campaign of McDavid.

NORRIS TROPHY
Erik Karlsson – 3/1
Drew Doughty – 6/1
Brent Burns – 7/1
Duncan Keith – 7/1
Kris Letang – 7/1
P.K. Subban – 7/1
Shea Weber – 17/2
Roman Josi – 10/1
Mark Giordano – 12/1
Kevin Shattenkirk – 20/1
Dustin Byfuglien – 25/1
Oliver Ekman-Larsson – 25/1
John Klingberg – 25/1
Ryan Suter – 25/1

Let’s all just promise to shut up about Karlsson vs. Doughty next June when they’re about to hand this one out. They’re both great blue liners.

RICHARD TROPHY
Alexander Ovechkin – 2/1
Vladimir Tarasenko – 11/2
Patrick Kane – 6/1
Steven Stamkos – 7/1
Jamie Benn – 10/1
Joe Pavelski – 12/1
Corey Perry – 12/1
Sidney Crosby – 14/1
John Tavares – 14/1
Connor McDavid – 16/1
Tyler Seguin – 18/1
Johnny Gaudreau – 20/1
Nikita Kucherov – 25/1
Brad Marchand – 25/1
Max Pacioretty – 25/1

He’s won the last four and six in his career. How is Ovechkin not even money at this point?
