NHL Awards odds: Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane among favorites for 2016-17

We are eight days away from the start of the 2016-17 NHL season. That means it’s time for predictions that we’ll look back on in April and laugh at along with betting odds for the major awards to be handed out in June.

Bovada has passed along their odds for the top NHL trophies.

Sidney Crosby – 7/2

Connor McDavid – 19/2

Jamie Benn – 11/1
Steven Stamkos – 11/1
Tyler Seguin – 14/1

Claude Giroux – 18/1

Your usual suspects at the top, but is there a longer shot that could win here? Giroux going full beast mode? Karlsson carrying the Ottawa Senators to the playoffs? Price doing it again?

A full season of Price should mean an improved Montreal Canadiens side. He looked great at the World Cup of Hockey, which bodes well for 2016-17. Martin Brodeur was the last goaltender to win the award in back-to-back years, meaning Holtby faces a tough task.

CALDER TROPHY
Auston Matthews – 5/8
Patrik Laine – 11/4
Dylan Strome – 8/1
William Nylander – 10/1
Pierre-Luc Dubois – 12/1
Jimmy Vesey – 12/1
Jesse Puljujarvi -15/1

We’re primed for another Sid vs. Ovi battle as we watch Matthews and Laine this season. That probably means that while Matthews is favored, Laine will grab the award. Maybe a late season goal flourish helps his cause?

Also, for the first time in three seasons John Gibson is not eligible to win the award.

Kane won the award last season after finishing 17 points ahead of Benn and 21 ahead of Crosby. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain got off to a slow start and you’d probably be right to predict a small regression from Kane this season. But the partnership between Benn and Seguin might throw a monkey wrench into those plans. Same for a full campaign of McDavid.
