NHL: 3 things to know for Sunday night

The Flames and Senators will try to get back into a playoff position while the Jets hope to strengthen their bid for the post season.

Here's three things to know for Sunday night NHL action.

Flames look for a season-series sweep

The Calgary Flames (40-28-7) are looking to beat the Nashville Predators (47-21-8) for a third time to take the season-series sweep and get back on track in the playoff race.

Calgary has struggled lately, losing five of it's last seven games including the last two. The Flames last game saw the team go down 4-2 at the hands of the Minnesota Wild on Friday.

Despite Calgary winning the first two meetings, the Predators won't be an easy team to get by; they clinched a playoff spot, they sit No. 1 in the Central Division with 102 points and they are in the race for the Presidents' Trophy. Nashville could move into first place in the overall standings with a victory.

Calgary has 87 points, one behind the Kings who are third in the Pacific Division, and three behind the Jets who hold the second wild card spot in the west. The Flames will have to get past one of those two teams to get into a playoff position.

Forward Paul Byron returned to the Calgary lineup for Friday's game after being out with a lower-body injury and coach Bob Hartley believes he's capable of making an impact.

Senators look for a rebound

After a remarkable winning stretch with netminder Andrew "the Hamburglar" Hammond came to an end Thursday after a 5-1 loss to the Rangers, the Senators added another defeat, going down 4-3 in overtime Saturday at the hands of the Maple Leafs. Ottawa (37-25-12) will look to prevent it's first three-game slide since Feb. 3-7, and get back on track in the hunt for a playoff spot with a win over the Panthers (34-26-15).

The Senators sit one point out of the final wild card spot in the east as Boston took over that position with a defeat of the Rangers Saturday. The Senators have 86 points.

The Sens have won 16 of their last 20 games in large part due to "the Hamburglar" who has gone 14-1-1 with a 1.83 goals against average since debuting in the NHL. Hammond did not play on Saturday and whether he or Craig Anderson will get the start is a game-time decision according to the team.

The Panthers are also trying to win that final wild card spot and will be hungry as they have further to go then Ottawa. with only 83 points. Florida lost 3-2 in overtime to Montreal on Saturday.

Both teams will be interested to see how Boston fares against the Hurricanes who play at the same time.

Jets look for 2 in a row

The Winnipeg Jets (39-24-12) are on track for their first playoff berth since relocating to the city in 2011, and are in a good position to beat the Chicago Blackhawks (44-24-6) to strengthen their bid.

Winnipeg has won three of four meetings against Chicago this season and is 12-2-2 in it's last 16 home games. The Jets have won seven of their last 10 and are coming off a 5-2 victory Thursday against one of the top teams in the league, the Canadiens. Winnipeg has 90 points.

The Jets' Mathieu Perreault could be back in the lineup after missing 16 games with a lower-body injury. He practised with the team Saturday and skated Sunday morning.

The Blackhawks have lost two straight and are coming off a 5-2 defeat against Columbus on Friday. Chicago fell out of third place in the Central Division Saturday as the Wild defeated the Kings 4-1. The Blackhawks need one point to get back in third spot. They have 94 points.
