NFL Week 7 Superlatives: Jets' Robby Anderson grabs best seat in the house

We’ve unveiled a new feature this season – weekly NFL superlatives. It’s meant to be a lighthearted look at Sunday’s games, as we highlight best shoes, cutest couple and class bully. Here are the picks for Week 7:

Best Seat in the House: Robby Anderson, New York Jets

Anderson’s 18-yard first-quarter touchdown in Miami wasn’t the longest score of the day, but when you’re working hard in the South Florida heat, sometimes you need to take a rest. After catching Josh McCown’s pass in stride in the back of the end zone, Anderson, a second-year receiver, jumped up and into an empty suite of seats at Hard Rock Stadium. Kind of like Lambeau Leap, but without fans overzealously smacking your helmet in celebration.

Class Bully: Vontaze Burfict, Cincinnati Bengals

He’ll just never get it, and at this point it’s clear that he doesn’t want to. As the Bengals played their rivals, Pittsburgh on Sunday, Burfict was a team captain but refused to shake hands with the Steelers captains during the pregame coin toss. Then just two plays in he kicked Pittsburgh fullback Roosevelt Nix in the head at the end of a play. Burfict wasn’t flagged, and the Steelers’ Le’Veon Bell doesn’t seem too happy about that.

Best Dressed: Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks

Sherman looked fly in his blue brocade jacket, which topped an otherwise black ensemble: black button-down, pants and patent leather shoes. The Seahawks cornerback asked fans to pick his jacket choice for him via an online vote; we think they chose well. Honorable mention to Jaguars’ linebacker Telvin Smith for his bright red-with-black trim jacket for the trip to Indianapolis.

Cutest Couple: JuJu Smith-Schuster and Le’Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers

Smith-Schuster, the youngest player in the NFL, has had some of the best touchdown celebrations we’ve seen this season. On Sunday, he enlisted Bell for a quick game of hide-and-seek: after scoring, the rookie put the ball down and covered his eyes, and Bell ran behind the padded goalpost to “hide.” After a quick count, Smith-Schuster went looking for his teammate, and the two seemed to have a good laugh about their game. And they easily beat their rivals, the Bengals, which is always a good time.

Biggest Heartbreaker: Joe Thomas, Cleveland Browns

It may not be possible to overstate how remarkable Thomas’ Ironman streak is. He played every. Single. Possible. Snap of his career up until Sunday, a streak of 10,363 plays, before suffering a triceps injury against the Tennessee Titans. Consecutive games streaks are impressive, but to never come off the field, ever? Think about how many times Thomas’ Browns have been on the wrong end of a blowout, and he still stayed on the field. Injuries are always terrible, but the sight of Thomas in the fetal position, grasping at his upper left arm, is a reminder that we’re all mortal.

Best Nickname: Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears

Apparently, Bears defensive players have taken to calling the rookie quarterback “Pretty Boy Assassin,” which is a heck of a moniker (the O-linemen call him “biscuit”). Trubisky hasn’t exactly been killing opposing defenses – he’s attempted just 48 passes total in his first three starts, with two touchdowns and an interception – but who’s going to argue when you’re the new guy and your teammates give you a nickname? True to the name, however, Trubisky arrived at Soldier Field on Sunday in a bright pink blazer with pink breast cancer awareness ribbons printed on the lining.

Most Likely to Succeed: Yannick Ngakoue, Jacksonville Jaguars

Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett likely had to sleep in a full-body ice wrap Sunday night after the beating he took from the Jacksonville defense, but if he ever got into a dream state, he likely had nightmares about Ngakoue. A third-round pick out of Maryland in 2016, Ngakoue was credited with a team-high 2.5 sacks and seven quarterback hits.

Best Cleats: Von Miller, Denver Broncos

Miller loves chickens. And not just the kind from Popeye’s, either. He majored in poultry science at Texas A&M, has his own chicken farm and even has a rooster tattoo. So it’s not a surprise that on Sunday he warmed up in a pair of custom cleats featuring bright red plumage, just like a rooster, and emblazoned with the word “freak” on the back. Though it was a rough day for Miller’s Broncos, who were shutout by the Los Angeles Chargers, he did what he could getting two sacks and five tackles.

Most Likely to Time Travel: Eddie Jackson, Chicago Bears

Jackson might be just a 24-year-old rookie, but among the storied history of excellent defensive players in Chicago, he did something that hasn’t been done in nearly 70 years. Against the Panthers, Jackson returned two turnovers over 75 yards each for touchdowns, becoming the first Bears player since 1948 to record two defensive TDs in the same game. It’s been almost five years since any other player had two defensive touchdowns in a game.
