NFL-National Football League roundup

April 22 (The Sports Xchange) - Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder insisted again on Tuesday that he will not change the team's name despite continuing objections by Native Americans. "We understand the issues out there, and we're not an issue," said Snyder, who was speaking at a ceremony after the Redskins donated $100,000 to Park View High School to go toward the installation of a synthetic turf field. "The real issues are real-life issues, real-life needs, and I think it's time that people focus on reality." - - The New York Giants are preparing for life without safety Will Hill, who is reportedly facing his third suspension for a violation of the NFL's drug policies. Hill, who started 10 games last season, was undrafted out of Florida and admitted marijuana use. He served a four-game suspension in 2013 for a violation of the substance-abuse policy and was banned four games in 2012 for a positive performance-enhancing drug test. - - Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle earlier this month, said he expects to be "100 percent" ready for camp this summer. "I think I'd be safe to say I'd be 100 percent for the start of training camp. I would hope so," Manning told reporters. - - Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, who is coming off foot surgery, will be limited in offseason workouts, coach Mike Smith said. "Julio is participating with our athletic performance department," Smith said. "He will be able to get out on the field and do some walkthrough stuff with us when we start going. Our focus on Julio is one thing, and that's having him prepared for our opener." - - The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up the fifth-year option on defensive end Cameron Heyward through the 2015 season. Heyward, 24, recorded 63 tackles, five sacks, five passes defensed and 31 pressures last season, including 13 starts. - - Move over Darrelle Revis, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is soon to be on an island all his own. Sherman and the Seahawks are closing in on a record contract for the brash cornerback that would pay him at least $13 million per season, CBS Sports reported. That would make Sherman, who instigated a Twitter spat with Revis about being the top cornerback in the NFL last year, the NFL's highest-paid cover man. - - It was more than a mild surprise when the Jacksonville Jaguars quietly released 27-year-old starting linebacker Russell Allen after five seasons. It wasn't an upset to Allen, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent and was cut three times before. That's because, as he told Sports Illustrated, Allen's health will not allow him to continue his professional football career. Allen said he suffered a stroke on the field Dec. 15, 2013, in a Week 15 game against the Buffalo Bills. He hit center Eric Wood "dead center" while pursuing the ball, and walked away "buzzed." - - NBC will televise an NFL Divisional Playoff game for each of the next eight seasons as part of a nine-year extension with the NFL which begins this season and ESPN, which signed an eight-year extension through 2021, will televise its first wild-card playoff game in January. - - The Buffalo Bills re-signed three exclusive rights free agents, wide receiver Chris Hogan, offensive lineman Antoine McClain and fullback Frank Summers. - - The San Francisco 49ers waived fullback Alex Debniak. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the 49ers on May 7, 2013. He tore his Achilles last summer and spent the season on injured reserve. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
