NFL-National Football League roundup

April 28 (The Sports Xchange) - Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis increased the ante of where his team will play in the future by pledging $500 million on Thursday toward the building of a proposed $1.4 billion domed stadium in Las Vegas. Davis stopped short of guaranteeing a move to Las Vegas but made his intentions clear with comments like turning "the Silver State into the silver and black state." Davis' quest toward moving the Raiders to Las Vegas came during a meeting with the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee at UNLV. - - Two months after losing Super Bowl 50 and walking out of the postgame news conference, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton talked to Ebony magazine at great lengths about what happened and what he was thinking during those few uncomfortable minutes. He admitted he could have, and should have, handled the situation better. "The truth is, I represent something way bigger than myself. I'm doing it for (my fans and family) and I felt like I let them down." - - Suspended Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon pled guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge, according to published reports. Blackmon's plea was for an arrest on Dec. 21 in Ardmore, Okla. He is slated to be sentenced on June 8. - - Opponents to the long-awaited concussion settlement with the NFL are taking another crack at the legal system to block the deal. Attorneys for about 70 former players have asked for a rehearing of an April 18 decision by a three-judge panel of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. - - Cardell Hayes was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith. Hayes also was indicted by a grand jury for attempted murder of Smith's wife, Racquel, who was injured in the shooting incident on April 9 in New Orleans after a minor traffic accident, and for aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated criminal damage to a vehicle. - - New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has expressed that he would "rather not play football" than accept the team's current contract offer, ESPN reported. New York is offering a contract of between $7 and $8 million per season while Fitzpatrick is requesting a deal for approximately twice that amount. - - Despite still being unsigned and not participating in the Broncos' voluntary offseason program, Denver linebacker Von Miller said he expects to have a contract any day. While in Denver on Wednesday, Miller characterized contract negotiations as "just business." - - The Miami Dolphins waived defensive back Damarr Aultman, wide receivers Tyler Davis and Robert Herron and defensive tackle Robert Thomas II. The team has also released linebacker Terrell Manning. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
