NFL-National Football League roundup

Dec 1 (The Sports Xchange) - The New England Patriots issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the condition of tight end Rob Gronkowski's right knee, saying his playing status is week to week after suffering a bone bruise/sprain during Sunday night's game in Denver. Gronkowski was injured during the fourth quarter of the Patriots' 30-24 overtime loss to the Broncos. "There is no timetable for his readiness to return, which will be determined in the days or hours prior to the appropriate game. Any timetable reported prior to that final determination would be speculative," the Patriots said in the statement. - - The Arizona Cardinals placed running back Chris Johnson on injured reserve/designated for return on Tuesday with a fractured tibia. Johnson, who was injured during the third quarter of Sunday's 19-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers, will be eligible to return after six weeks and able to play in a game after eight weeks. That would leave Johnson available only if the Cardinals reach the Super Bowl. - - Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger expects to be on the practice field Wednesday and denied that he suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss at Seattle. Head coach Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger was dealing with "what is now being called a concussion," even after the quarterback said he completed concussion protocol at the team facility Tuesday. - - Terrelle Pryor is rejoining the Cleveland Browns as a wide receiver. He played the position with the team throughout training camp after entering the NFL as a quarterback with the Oakland Raiders. - - Browns quarterback Josh McCown will miss the rest of the season with a broken collarbone, coach Mike Pettine said Tuesday. Where the Browns turn next at quarterback is unclear, and Pettine was in no mood to discuss the decision the day after Cleveland lost on a game-ending blocked field goal return for a touchdown on "Monday Night Football." - - Tony Romo is done for the season, but Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has an optimistic outlook on the long view of his quarterback's career. Jones, speaking to 105.3 FM about Romo's future, offered a defensive position on his most important offensive player. "This is not a damn debate, guys. This is not a debate we're having here. ... You're asking me what I think and I think we've got (an) outstanding quarterback ahead of us for the next four or five years," Jones said. - - Veteran offensive lineman Jacques McClendon signed with the Miami Dolphins, who released linebacker James-Michael Johnson. McClendon has played in 23 career games with five starts. - - Guard Adam Gettis was signed to the New York Giants' active roster from the practice squad of the Oakland Raiders. Gettis spent most of the season on the Giants' practice squad. He was released Nov. 4 and signed with the Raiders. - - Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams was placed on injured reserve. The Bills signed three players Tuesday, including defensive tackle T.J. Barnes, defensive end Lavar Edwards and linebacker Kevin Reddick. - - The Minnesota Vikings signed safety John Lowdermilk to the practice squad and released linebacker Terrance Plummer on Tuesday. Lowdermilk was cut before the season by the San Diego Chargers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent rookie in May. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
