Todd Gurley looks good on long TD run, joins legends on historic list

Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley was barely challenged on a touchdown run that placed him with elite company.

Gurley took it 35 yards to the end zone minutes into the Falcons’ Week 5 home game against the Carolina Panthers. He wasn’t touched until around the 20-yard line, and just barely at that.

It was his fifth score of the season and his longest touchdown run since the 2018 playoffs when he was with the Los Angeles Rams.

The score was career touchdown No. 75 for the sixth-year veteran. Gurley, who turned 26 in August, joins four Hall of Famers as the only players in history to reach the 75-touchdown mark before their 27th birthday.

Gurley did so in his 78th game, which was slightly behind the paces set by Jim Brown (72), LaDainian Tomlinson (72) and Emmitt Smith (77).

The former Georgia star led the league in total touchdowns in the 2017 and 2018 seasons with 19 and 21, respectively. If he continues his trend of a touchdown a game he’d finish his first season with the Falcons at 16, third-most in his career.
