NFL-Defeated Panthers vow to get back to Super Bowl

By Larry Fine SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb 7 (Reuters) - Carolina were crushed by their 24-10 Super Bowl defeat to the Denver Broncos but the Panthers vowed to learn from the loss and get back to the NFL's grandest stage. "You just have to come back and fight next year," said defensive end Keony Ealy, who had an outstanding game in defeat. Ealy tied the Super Bowl record with three sacks and became the first player to record multiple sacks and an interception in a Super Bowl. "It sucks, but at the end of the day, I can't dwell on it. The better team won. They showed up, they played. They didn't make mistakes, we did make mistakes. We can't do that," said Ealy, who also forced a fumble. "It's a process. We will learn from this and get back. We will look to get at this again next year." Carolina Pro Bowl linebacker Thomas Davis played with a dozen pins in his right forearm after having surgery for a broken bone suffered two weeks ago in the NFC title game against the Arizona Cardinals. "We definitely had a sucessful season, but you know we let so many people down," Davis said. "It's tough to get over that feeling. Hats off to Denver. "Their defense created more turnovers and more opportunities than our defense did. That's what it came down to." Quarterback Cam Newton, who blossomed this season to be named the league's most valuable player, was uncharacteristically curt in his post-match remarks. "I don't know what you want me to say. They made more plays than us, and that's what it came down to," he said. "We dropped balls. We turned the ball over, gave up sacks, threw errant passes. That's it. They scored more points than we did." After a few terse answers, the usually buoyant quarterback of the team that came into the game with a 17-1 record promptly walked away from reporters. Head coach Ron Rivera said: "We've talked about getting to the mountain peak and obviously we're at the top of the mountain but we're not at the peak. "I told our guys ... this is the same team that a couple of years ago got beat in New York," he said, referring to the 43-8 drubbing Denver absorbed from the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. "So we have an opportunity to grow and learn from this experience and give ourselves an opportunity to get back here." (Editing by Ian Ransom)
