NFL betting: Jets' decision to kick field goal on third down provided two bad beats

Kicking a field goal before fourth down when it's late and you're down by 10 points is a viable strategy.

It just can stink for bettors. It stunk two ways on Sunday morning.

For those bettors who wanted some early London action and took the New York Jets +3 and the under of 45 at BetMGM, the Jets' decision to kick a field goal late was a brutal one.

The Jets rallied to cut the Atlanta Falcons' lead to 20-17 in the fourth quarter, but then the Falcons answered with a touchdown and took a 27-17 lead. The Jets drove inside Atlanta territory in the final two minutes, and +3 bettors had hope. If they didn't score a touchdown, under 45 bettors would be fine.

Then, on second down, Zach Wilson took a sack. On third-and-27, the Jets decided that since they needed a touchdown and field goal, they'd hurry with the field goal and hope for an onside kick.

Again, a viable strategy. And horrid for bettors.

The Jets' field goal was good, which pushed the game over the total. It also killed the action for Jets +3 unless there was a miracle onside kick recovery. There was not.

Hopefully your Sunday didn't get off to a bad start due to that field goal in London.
