NFL bad beat: Patriots bettors had a win, until CeeDee Lamb's walk-off TD

New England Patriots bettors were all Jalen Mills at the end of overtime.

When Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb was wide open for a touchdown to win the game, he caught it and rubbed it in a bit. Mills, frustrated at losing that game and having Lamb showboat before scoring, shoved Lamb after he crossed the goal line.

Bettors couldn't take out their frustration that easily.

The Patriots were 3.5-point underdogs and for most of the game that seemed like the right side. When the Patriots won the coin toss to start overtime, Cowboys bettors knew it would take a lot of good luck to cash a ticket.

A Patriots touchdown would have ended the game. A Patriots field goal would have meant the most the Cowboys could have won by was 3 points (they don't kick extra points for game-ending touchdowns). The Cowboys needed to get a stop, and then score a touchdown instead of settling for a field goal.

And ... the Cowboys got a stop and scored a touchdown instead of settling for a field goal.

Had Lamb got stopped short of the goal line, the Cowboys presumably would have set up Greg Zuerlein for a short field goal. But Lamb was so open, he could walk into the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown, with some trash talk before he crossed the goal line. The Cowboys won 35-29 and covered the spread as well.

It was a thrilling win for the Cowboys. It was an even more thrilling win for Cowboys bettors. And it was a brutal loss for anyone who had Patriots +3.5, because everything had to go wrong to not win that one.
