Yuba City Police Department

Officers arrested a Nevada County woman suspected of driving under the influence of drugs when she hit a pedestrian with her vehicle and drove away Tuesday night in Yuba City, police said.

Rachel Medlin, 25, from Grass Valley was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury, driving under the influence causing injury and driving without a valid license, the Yuba City Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon in a news release.

The hit-and-run was reported about 10:50 p.m. at the intersection of Bridge and Plumas streets. Medics and the Yuba City Fire Department responded to the scene.

Officers arrived and learned the vehicle’s driver left the area before authorities arrived and without offering aid to the pedestrian. Police said the pedestrian suffered major injuries in the vehicle collision and was taken to Adventist Health and Rideout hospital for treatment, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

A witness remained at the scene and gave officers a description of the vehicle and its driver. A Sutter County sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect vehicle and Medlin in the 3000 block of Walton Avenue, a few miles from where the hit-and-run occurred.

Police said officers determined Medlin was under the influence of illegal narcotics, but did not say which drugs she had allegedly consumed. Medlin was booked at Sutter County Jail.
