NCIS star Brian Dietzen has taken to Instagram to celebrate the continued success of the long-running CBS show following the season 20 finale.

The season came to a close on May 22 with its 22nd episode, "Black Sky." Later, on June 3, Deadline posted an article declaring that NCIS had held on to the title of the most-watched scripted series of the television season. It drew in 9.86 million viewers.

Dietzen, who plays the Chief Medical Examiner for NCIS, Dr. Jimmy Palmer, shared a screenshot of the article to his Instagram Stories (as seen by Hello! Magazine), captioning the post: "Thank you for watching!"

However, while it is undoubtedly good news for the show that it is still the most-watched TV series, the show did lose roughly a million average viewers season-over-season, which suggests a decline in viewership for broadcast TV as a whole.

The finale of this season of NCIS ended on a cliffhanger, with Wilmer Valderrama's Nick Torres finding someone from his past while going undercover in prison. The man he found was the stepfather of a young inmate in prison.

This man has links to Torres' family and, right at the end of the episode, Torres went to confront the man, wanting to kill him. The episode ended there, in a major cliffhanger.

NCIS recently had its future revealed alongside spin-off NCIS: Hawai'i. Both shows were renewed for CBS' 2023/2024 TV season.

However, NCIS: Los Angeles will not be returning. That show was recently confirmed to be ending after its 14th season.

NCIS airs on CBS in the US. Seasons 1-20 are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
