Norm Powell bids farewell to Toronto, Raptors fans with emotional Instagram post

After being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers on NBA Deadline Day last week, former Raptors guard Norman Powell made sure to show his appreciation to the city of Toronto, the organization, and its fans in an emotional Instagram post on Monday.

Shortly after the deadline, Powell faced off against the Raptors on Sunday in his second game with Portland, which resulted in him getting the last laugh with an emotional win over his former team. But despite rocking a different jersey, it’s clear the 27-year-old guard will always be a Raptor at heart — as evident when he accidentally lined up with his former teammates during the opening tip.

Once all the confusion was cleared up, the six-year veteran wasted no time picking up where he left off scoring 13 points against the Raptors to propel his new team to its third-straight win.

Powell brought his hot shooting to the Blazers in his debut on Friday in a win against the Orlando Magic, scoring 22 points — the most points scored in a debut in franchise history.

While Raptors fans are still reeling from the deal that sent Powell to Portland in exchange for Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood on March 25, it’s clear that the fan-favourite shooting guard’s legacy will always be cemented with the Raptors franchise.
